Week 8 - June 30 - July 6, 2007

June 30, 2007

Time sure flies when you're having fun!  The long weekend brought many adventures!

All 7 puppies snoozing soundly and not aware of what they are in for!!!

Some neighbour boys were walking by the house when we went out to round up the crew for their group shot.  I asked if they were looking for a job to do and to my surprise, they agreed and ran next door to get the rest of their friends.  We had 7 boys in all including Nick so it was perfect, one puppy per kid!  Our first adventure was trying to get a decent group shot of our motley crew!  This is always a trick and usually a belly full of laughs!  Here's our first attempt:

I thought it would be nice to get them sitting nicely on the flower bed wall in front of the Yucca's, ya right!

After many attempts, this was the best shot out of the bunch!

The neighbourhood boys and a puppy each!

This whole attempt at getting a group shot was because our first puppy is leaving today    It is always a bittersweet moment!  Great to see wonderful families getting our puppies, but sad to see them go.  Miss Patty (Pink) was the first one to leave the 'nest'!  Her eye has healed up quite nicely and hopefully, she won't have to have any more eye surgery.  Hopefully, we caught it in time to make the tacking sutures do the trick!  She went to a great family that will care for her and love her and do everything necessary to make her eye as good as new!

Miss Patty after her bath waiting for her new family to come.  A little staining still around her eye, but other than that, it looks totally normal!

Thank you to the McManus family of St. Thomas for letting this sweet girl into your hearts!

The next one to leave was Miss Yellow (Maid Marion - after her Grandfather Mario) on Sunday morning (July 1st).  She went to the breeder that I got Bailey from.  They were very excited to get their new girl and to carry on the lines in their breeding program!  Sorry, didn't get a photo.  We were up at the crack of dawn to meet them in Newmarket for 9:00am.  Thanks Carol and Randy for meeting me that early (4 hour drive for them) and for staying and chatting with me to pass the time while I waited to pick up Mitchell!  I got back home to find droves of people stopping by while walking or even driving to see the puppies out in the yard and Jeff said there had been a steady stream all day.  They sure got lots of attention this past weekend!

The first of the week passed by uneventful and not so many visitors!  The next puppies to leave were Jack (Red) and Rosie (Purple).  The fun begins with bathing!  Then on to the drying and fluffing and then playtime up in the kitchen!

Jack (red) playing in the dirt just before his bath!

Mr Jack (Red) after his bath - guess we tuckered him out!

Rosie and Jack waiting for their families to come!

The Lancaster family meeting Jack for the first time!

The Todoroff family meeting Rosie for the first time!

These 2 puppies are going to grow up together.  The Lancasters and Todoroffs are in-laws and spend lots of time together in their homes in Toronto.  They had littermates from another breeder that passed away within a week of each other just weeks before our puppies were born.  They had contacted me about 2 years ago and wanted to get on the waiting list for our 2007 litters.  Wow, the timing of this litter was perfect and I am honoured that they chose us to help fill the void in their lives!!  Thanks for giving our puppies such great homes and I can't wait to hear about their new adventures in Toronto and at the cottage!

Jack and Rosie and their new families heading for their cottage in the Minden area!

And then there were 3!

Miss Rainbow, Mr Blue and Miss Green still here waiting to go to their new homes!

3 dirty puppies - I'm sure I could bath them every day, but that wouldn't be much fun for any of us.  So they will get their turn in the tub when they go to their respective homes.

Little Miss Saucey!!!  (Sophie) - she is actually saucing me off and yipping at me for taking even more photos!

Another 2 puppies leaving today!  Wow, it has been kind of nice that they are leaving at a staggered pace.  It is tough when they all leave at once.  Tough because it is a lot of work to get a whole litter ready to leave over the span of 2 days, but nice to have them gone (sort of) to ease the workload so that life can get back to somewhat normal.  This has been nice though I have to admit so that we don't suffer from "empty nest syndrome" so quickly.  It took about 2 weeks for all the puppies to go to their new homes due to holidays, etc. but it was great to spend more one-on-one time with the individual puppies.  We had so much fun that most of the time, I forgot to take pictures of our adventures!

Anyway, on with the photos of the next few puppies leaving!

The Balmers and their new addition Ryder (Mr Blue)
The Balmers live in London and have offered to keep Ryder in tact so that we can assess him down the road to see if we would like to use him for breeding.  Who knows, we might even get him in the show ring if he cuts the mustard!  Thanks guys for giving Ryder such a wonderful, loving home - he is truly one lucky little guy!

Nick and Magic (Miss Green) after her bath and before her new owners come to pick her up.

The Munro's and their new addition Magic!
The Munro's live fairly close to me so it will be nice to be able to watch Magic grow up!  The Munro's too lost a Golden a few years back which makes me so happy to be able to provide you guys with your newest love.  I just know she will make you guys very happy and busy - LOL!!

Mr and Miss Schropp and their newest addition Sophie!  (Mom is camera shy and dad was out of town on business)

Little Miss Sophie (Purple) has been a long time in coming for the Schropp Family!  These happy kid's father was my boss at one point when I worked for an engineering firm in Port Elgin.  They had a great dog (Georgie) that used to come into work sometimes and make us smile!  She was a sweet girl and unfortunately her time came much too quickly!  She recently passed away from Cancer and it was just luck that we had a litter of puppies coming.  Beth and Tyler came to visit me when we had our first litter of puppies back in 2000 and wanted a puppy then.  The timing just wasn't right so they waited.  I am so thrilled that they chose us to fill the void in their lives and to put a smile back on these sweet kids faces!  They live in the next town so were able to come by and visit quite often while the puppies were growing.  I think they thought they would never be able to finally take their puppy home but that day finally came today and I couldn't be more thrilled for them!  Thanks for choosing us and I look forward to watching Miss Sophie grow up and hope she is able to visit the office some day too!  You guys will have to come and visit sometime soon, Nick keeps asking when his new friends are coming to visit so that he can catch more frogs in the ditch across the road!  LOL

Well, that's it, they have all gone to their new homes and we miss them very much!  It still amazes me that this whole litter all went to families that had recently lost their Goldens to old age or other ailments!  What an honour!!

Bailey has gone back to her foster home in Port Elgin and I know the dogs miss her too!  She loves to play with them and them with her.  To illustrate how great of a mom she is, I have a little story to tell.  Bailey came back to visit for a week recently because her foster family was going away on a camping trip.  The first thing Bailey did when I brought her in the house was go right downstairs to the laundry room to see if her puppies were still there.  Unbelievable!  She still wanted to look after and feed her puppies even though she hadn't seen them for over 2 weeks!  When I let her back outside with the rest of our crew, she immediately took to Gracie and started playing and mothering her.  It was great to see and solidified my plans to breed her again!  She is the best mom I have had here yet!  Alex and Casey are good mom's but they're just not like Bailey.  She is amazing!

Be sure to check back in the fall for news of our next litter adventure!
