April 28, 2004 - Jill and Robin Dunn

Jill and Robin Dunn have Allie, a puppy from Alex and Max's 2nd litter born February 4, 2004.  She was the female with the Burgundy (purple) collar in the photos on the Past Puppies Page.

Jill sends me many updates and I love hearing how Allie is doing.  Here is a letter from Jill and Robin on April 28, 2004,

Hi Judi:

I haven't talked to you for awhile and I wanted to provide an update.

Allie is such a charming little (and getting bigger) puppy. What a wonderful addition to our family, making all of us laugh.  She has doubled in size and will be 3 months old next week. Wow! She is so smart for her age but I think I have lost the memories of 10 years ago when we had Shadow as a puppy.

I have taken more pictures of her than I took of my children. What does that say of me as a parent? I was busier then for sure.  Robin and I failed the "crate lesson" and Allie goes wherever she wants and sleeps in the funniest of places. She loves to be in small tight places, one being between the toilet and tub with her head behind, in the pipes. We think it is the cool of the location and know this won't be a permanent place because she has almost grown out of it in a month.  The one thing that we find so endearing and amusing is her "need" to snuggle, mostly on our laps. It is hard to train her to stay down (not jump up on people or things) but she looks at us at times when we are sitting in our easy chair and beseeches us to hold her. (She thinks she is a lap dog!) We pick her up and she snuggles into our lap and into our hearts. I'm not sure how this will play out as she grows to maturity but we have visualized her legs on both sides of our lap and the weight getting too much to deal with. Time will tell.

She has some silly things that she does that are so funny to watch and I must admit I get caught up in spending time just looking at her antics (good for me that I take/have the time to just "be.") She loves her back yard and sits on the top step surveying her domain. There are two fat cats from the neighborhood that love to come into our yard and sit in wait for the birds to come to the feeder. Allie watches them and in fact is very skittish since they are bigger than she is at the present time and they know it. Every now and then she lets out a puppy bark and the cats look at her like she is from Mars and continue their bird watching vigil.

She has a nickname of "The Gardener" since she is really good at digging and pruning. She was hilarious one morning after she did her puppy laps in the yard, she spied a hanging plant left out from last year. It had long grasses hanging down a couple of feet and Allie had grown so she could leap into the air and grab a mouthful of grass and pull. She literally swung on the mouthful of grass, jumping up after she let go each time and effectively pruned the grasses to about 6 inches from the pot all the way around. When she had the mouthful of grass she would run around the yard, around the shed, under the steps and then flop on the grass and catch her breath and make another pass at the plant till finished. After that kind of exercise she comes in, we leave the door open for her to come in whenever she wants, and she'll sleep soundly for a couple of hours.

Keep well and Happy Spring.

Jill

Here is another update from Jill and Robin that we got today, May 18, 2004

 Hi Judi:

Life is full these days and Allie sure makes it meaningful & fun for Robin and I.

I accessed your website again as I sit here so early in the "am" and I wept once again at the story of the little girl looking for the puppy size/sighs! Your site is remarkable!

Allie is maturing and growing so rapidly it is difficult to document the speed she is taking new information into her mental computer files. We just bought her second collar. She loves it and knows she looks beautiful.

We go for daily walks (well most days) and she is doing well with the lessons in "heeling" and is getting better at stopping at the corners and sitting. She is having a grand time in her puppy pool in the back yard as well as other wonderful carefree running sprees with puppy laps around the yard, playing with our grandchildren and neighbors, riding in the car and just loving us. She is a consummate "cuddler!" Always lies on our feet when we are eating and loves to be cuddled on the floor (as you suggested.)

AND... she is doing well sleeping through the night. HURRAY!

Thank you so much for "your high values and standards" in the breeding of your puppies. I certainly would recommend you to anyone looking for a companion in their life.

I will keep in touch.  Thanks for the happiness you brought into Robin's and my life with Allie.

September 29, 2004

Jill and Robin Dunn sent me another update on Allie this week.  They said that she is doing just great and that they love her very much.  She is almost 8 months old and weighs in at 63 lbs.  They also sent a couple more photos of Allie and her antics.

"The photos show her with our 6 year old (almost 7) grandaughter Michyla, who was visiting us one evening with her dad, Chris.  She decided to have a bath before bed and Chris and I heard her giggling loudly, so we went to investigate.  The rest is history as they say.  Allie got into the tub and ended up having a bath too - What Memories!"

April 1, 2004 - Catherine and Paul Traynor

Catherine, Paul and Brody Traynor have Charlie (1) from Alex and Max's second litter born February 4, 2004.  He was the male with the Navy Blue (brown ribbon) collar in the photos on the Past Puppies page.

Catherine sent me this email a couple of days after Charlie got home.  He had a 6 hour drive to their home in Consecon, Ontario near Kingston.

Hi Judi!!

Well they made it home around 9:00 p.m.   I allowed Brody to stay up to wait.  Charlie immediately felt at home.  The dog is very intelligent.  He has not had one accident in the house.  He was quite thirsty when he arrived, and I gave him some supper.   We went out after that (by the tree - which will be his spot) and he went pee and poop.  I praised him with a liver treat.   He played with Brody for around a half hour.   I put Brody to bed, and Paul and I stayed up with Charlie for around another 1/2 hour. I took him out before bed, then it was crate time.  The crate is right beside my bed.  He cried for about 2 minutes.  I stuck my hand in the crate and he licked it and then fell fast asleep.  I woke him at 1:00 a.m. and took him for a pee which he did immediately.  Back to bed.    I got up again at 3:30 and woke him again for another pee.   He did again, and then back to bed.  He was very good in the morning.  I wake at 5:30 to start chores, he was awake then, but not saying anything.  He was "lounging" on his side, chewing a toy.  Up we got, and outside again.   He had breaky, then Brody, Paul and I headed out to feed the girls, with Charlie in tow.

He was taken aback by the barn and the horses.   I know it was the size of them, and also the girls are quiet rambunctious in the morning as they are anxious to eat.   So I picked Charlie up and we walked around and I showed him everything, and Paul kindly fed for me.  After that, I put him down, and he followed us back to the house.  I reluctantly had to go to work, and they must be all outside right now doing barn stuff cause nobody will answer the phone!!!!  Lucky devils!!

Anyway, I am bringing the digi camera home tonight, and will take some pics and send to you.    He is lovely, and actually smarter than I had anticipated.

Thanks for the wonderful Dog Judi, you have made my family very, very happy. Although he will never "replace Arthur", nor should he, we will love him just as much.  He is now a huge part of our family!!!

Oh yes....   My mom and dad are on their way over to the farm to visit with their new "Granddog"!!

Bye for now!!

Catherine

May 5, 2004 - Carolyn and Mike Doherty

Carolyn and Mike Doherty have Clancey, the largest puppy from Alex and Max's 2nd litter born February 4, 2004.  He was the male puppy with the Green (navy ribbon) collar and was a very rolly polly guy.

Carolyn sent me this email today and I wanted to share it with you.

We were very pleased with our experience of buying our Golden Retriever from Judi Ford.  She showed a great deal of knowledge, concern and interest in making our experience a good one.  Her puppies are well socialized and we have had a wonderful time with Clancey, now 13 weeks old. We have no hesitation in recommending her..........Carolyn and Michael Doherty

May 10, 2004 - Neil Hickey

Neil lives in downtown Toronto and has Fulton, a puppy from Alex and Max's 2nd litter born February 4, 2004.  Fulton was the male puppy with the Royal Blue collar.  Fulton is very loved and has lots of fun playing in the local dog park with all his new friends.

Ahhh... all is well in the land of dog-poo and dog-pee. Little Fulton is doing well in the big city. He continues to be a "fav" when scurrying around the downtown. His demeanor is second-to-none... loves people and loves seeing a few dogs who are now smaller than him :), He's very gentle when playing with them.. moreso just moves his head and tosses them a couple of smiles or so. Convinced he sees them as some new squeeky toy or something.

He has my "path" down pat when taking him to the big park... sidewalk... head north two blocks... take a right... climb two steps to Tim Horton's.. wait patiently for me... and then cross street to the park. He's really good off his leash when in the park. Enjoys his digging and his mud puddles !!

Thank you, you were a true resource for me when I was researching a breeder. Prompt with emails and phone calls. Exceptionally helpful... and a great sense of humor. I have already given your name/website to several people asking about Goldens, and am happy to share your contact with anyone else. The puppies are obviously raised well, as little Fulton got along GREAT with people and dogs from the day I picked him up. Great job ! I am pleased to provide you a reference and welcome anyone contacting me who might be in the same-boat I was only months ago. I am attaching a few new pictures for you... then I must treat Fulton to his favorite morning treat... an ice cube with cheese whiz in the middle. A frozen "tootsie roll" for puppies I call it. :)

Neil went on holidays to Montreal and took Fulton with him.  They stayed at the Crowne Plaza and Fulton was welcome there.  Below is an email that I got from Neil on Monday, July 19, 2004.

Good morning Judi.

Fulton is doing very well. He's definitely way oo adorable.  Your email couple of weeks ago re: travel was well timed. I actually was leaving for Montreal on a little road trip with Fulton when you sent it. You're right... I found petfriendly.ca very useful... I ended up staying at the Crowne Plaza (Sherbrooke/Berri... montreal's east end) and they welcomed Fulton. did not cost extra. what I found was the typical agreement though was that pets were not to be left in room alone ?? That sounded crazy to me, and the concierge admitted that it was a foolish rule and they often look-the-other-way so long as the pet is well behaved and does not chew out a wall or something. highly recommend Crowne plaza. they were great. I am sending along two pictures of our dailyX2 trip to Parc LaFontaine in montreal. they have a large water pond thingy there which we loved. In the second picture, fulton is swimming (sortof) towards his favorite "floating" treats. Was great fun.

He made out absolutely fine in both the car and the hotel. Fulton is a favorite amongst new puppy owners by the way... he typically rolls onto his back and the puppies jump on him.. chew on him.. he just lays there. if they get too rough, one swing of his paw and that usually sends any puppy flying a few feet haha. He's rarely barking, expect maybe a little during play with other dogs. Housetraining coming along well. still the odd... very rare... pee mistake but thats about it.

Stil need to speak to Grace about both of us managing a trip to your place in august. I think it would be a hoot. will get back asap once my schedule is out for then. every once in a while, people ask for your contact info. i have been giving the website to them.  think one guy from my floor actually chatted with you via email or phone some time ago ?? he mentionned something to that effect few weeks ago.

June 20, 2004 - Gary and Jean Vivian

Gary and Jean live in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and they have Gibson, who was the male puppy with the orange collar.  Gary is a Geologist and does a lot of work in the field and used to take his last Golden with him when he went out.  His last Golden died of old age late last year and they got Gibson in early April to have a new companion and family member.  Here is an update on Gibson that I received by email today.  I will add photos when I get them.

Judi;  I have a few pictures of Gibson I will send this week.  He is very big.  His head is almost halfway between my knee and my hip.  Feet are nowhere near being grown into yet.  I had him in a helicopter on Friday, his first trip.  He absolutely loved it.  He was good in the bush as well.  He stuck fairly close but did do some exploring on his own.  He is still quite uncoordinated when running and jumping but he is getting there.  He is so much fun and we love him dearly.  Talk to you soon.  Gary.

Brian Kucherepa and Mary Stamos - Sooner - born February 1, 2005

Brian and Mary have Sooner, who is out of Alex and Haver's litter born February 1, 2005.  They live in the Beaches area of Toronto and are enjoying have a puppy addition to their family.   Thanks guys for giving him so much love and such a great home!  I couldn't be happier!  Here is an email that I received April 21, 2005:

The first photo is of Sooner just after they got him home at 7 1/2 weeks old.  The second photo is of Sooner at 11 weeks old - April 20, 2005.

Hey Judi,

We just got back from the vet Sooner just had his shots (didn’t even move when the vet gave him his shot!) The vet said he’s in really good condition and is growing very fast; he is now 24.6Lbs 26inces long and 20.5inces high! We have been very, very busy with him he still loves the car rides and the long morning walks to the beach. Yesterday we had some rain and he didn’t want to wait for it to clear up so I put on the rain gear and off we went to the beach. He played out there for about an hour and then it was time to come in. Now of course in good Toronto fashion just as we got to our street the rain stopped and the sun came out but now the mud puddles were in full view of Sooner. Guess what he wanted to do??

So after a good roll in the mud we made it home.  Me disregarding every thing we have taught him, I picked him up and ran across the house to the bathroom and put him in the tub. I have come to conclude that he loves the bath (water) but not the part when we wash the mud off of him (I think he is still a little ticked at me for that) After that he passed out for 2 hours until Mary came home and went for another trip around the block, no mud this time. So all is well, he has a very calm demeanor to him and seems to be very relaxed around the house. In late response to your prior e-mail you may certainly use our e-mails for your reference page. I would type one up for you but people would need 3 hours to read about all the great things you have done and instilled into our puppy’s life even before we saw him. From over the years I have had dogs, I have come to learn it’s not only what one person puts into training a puppy it’s also how the puppy is received when they are born and the care of a whole family it takes to shape a dogs demeanor right off the bat. And Sooner is definitely a great example of how you and your family have started him down the path to being a great, gentle and caring family addition.

 Again Thank-you for everything Judi

 Brian and Mary

May 30, 2005 - Lori and Tim MacPherson

This is an email I got from the MacPherson's.  They have Bailey, a puppy from our very first litter, and also Jasper from our most recent litter (Feb 05).  Good to hear that what we do here does make a difference!

Thanks to Lori and Tim for giving our puppies such a great home!  You guys are the best and I look forward to more updates in the near future!

Good Morning Judi,

I thought I would send you an update about Jasper.  He had his last set of shots on Friday night, he weighed in at 38.9 lbs and he has two of his adult teeth, the front ones!

We also started the puppy school training, we are on week 4 and doing very well.  The trainer wants to take him home with her; as a matter of fact everyone wants to take him home.  She also made a suggestion about Jasper becoming a therapy dog, I am going to look into that.  She also asked if he came from a breederk, we said yes, and she said that she could tell, he has a great tempermant.

I thought I would let you know all your hard work pays off.

Thanks Judi,

Lori MacPherson
